About the Cultural Heritage Studies Laboratory
Bridging Knowledge, Technology, and Narrative
The Cultural Heritage Studies Research Laboratory is a pioneering scientific center dedicated to interdisciplinary research focused on the documentation, conservation, and revitalization of historical buildings and urban fabrics. Established in 2023 under the leadership of Dr. Hossein Raee, the laboratory provides an innovative platform for researchers, experts, and students to advance knowledge and practical applications in the fields of cultural heritage and tourism through scientific methods, cutting-edge technologies, and rigorous field analysis.
At this center, we place a special emphasis on applied research, aiming to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Our approach transcends the mere generation of knowledge; we seek real-world, sustainable solutions for the management, conservation, and principled utilization of historical and cultural assets.
Our activities center on developing novel methods for analyzing heritage data, employing emerging technologies for the scanning and monitoring of historical structures, and integrating authentic indigenous knowledge with modern scientific tools. Our strength lies in interdisciplinary collaboration—a dynamic ecosystem where expertise in architecture, archaeology, structural conservation, information technology, media, and storytelling converge to create a comprehensive and practical vision of cultural heritage.
In our laboratory, the boundary between research and implementation is fluid. The integration of scientific research with specialized workshops, field tests, and practical projects—combined with direct engagement with the professional community—ensures the quality and impact of our outputs. By aligning research with practice, we seek not only to preserve the physical fabric of structures but also to authentically retell the stories embedded in history; for heritage endures for future generations only through documented, scholarly storytelling.

Heritage, Management, and the Future
Vision and Mission
Heritage is not merely a repository of the past but the very foundation of the future. Dr. Hossein Raie, founder of the Cultural Heritage Studies Laboratory, looks beyond traditional restoration to redefine the link between historical authenticity and contemporary imperatives. His focus—encompassing the management, research, and intelligent conservation of architectural, urban, UNESCO World Heritage, and agricultural heritage sites—charts a course for preserving identity amidst the turbulence of the modern era.
Leadership and Field Experience
Dr. Raee has built a bridge of experience spanning the divide between academic theory and practical implementation. From managing and leading World Heritage sites—such as the Persian Qanat, Bisotun, and Taq-e Bostan—to collaborating with specialized international institutions, his work has consistently aimed to integrate scientific knowledge with responsible management and sustainable conservation.
Education and Mentorship
As a faculty member at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, he believes that knowledge truly comes alive only when it is shared. His mission within academia extends beyond the mere transfer of skills; he seeks to cultivate a new generation of specialists—professionals equipped with a mastery of modern technologies and interdisciplinary approaches, capable of addressing the complex challenges facing cultural heritage.
Our Team
Creativity in Preservation, Precision in Storytelling
A Culture of Innovation
We stand at the intersection of tradition and technology. Our research team comprises creative minds from the fields of architecture, engineering, conservation, and modern technology, employing an interdisciplinary approach to "smart preservation." By leveraging advanced tools, we transform raw data into actionable solutions for sustainable preservation and the development of cultural tourism.
Documentation and Storytelling
We believe that what goes unrecorded is lost to the passage of time. Our media and documentation division is dedicated to the digital recording and archiving of cultural heritage, aiming to transform specialized knowledge into compelling narratives. We document and tell the story of heritage not merely as an artifact, but as a living narrative for the collective memory of society.
